“Ocular and Systemic Biologics: Why They Make Sense for Our Patients” COPE # 91513-PH 2Hhrs.
A biologic drug is a product that is produced from living organisms or one that contains components of a living organism. Every year new biologics are approved for ocular and systemic diseases. Not only are these genetically engineered marvels expensive, but they also revolutionize the treatment of certain diseases and conditions for which there is no other option. This course will review how biologics are made and approved, and how they are “chosen” for an ocular and/or systemic disease. The agents will be discussed from a physiologic and clinical perspective. Participants will leave with a working knowledge of biologics and how these agents might benefit their patients.
